Janis Joplin - Woodstock Sunday August 17, 1969 - 2019
Janis Joplin and her former band Big Brother & the Holding Company gained stardom at the Monterey International Pop Festival 1967. Unfortunately in late 1968 she left the band to move on to a solo career. Of course, Janis ended up in Woodstock together with a full ensemble of musicians.
Her late performance - she played in the night of Saturday to Sunday at about 2:00 am - didn't make things easier for her. The show was still strong but it lacked somewhat of Janis Joplin's power and improvisation of her backing band. Nevertheless, this gig is a worthwhile document of time.

from ThePaulMcCartneyProject!!!!! Henry Campbell Liken McCullough (21 July 1943 – 14 June 2016) was a Northern Irish guitarist, vocalist and songwriter. He was best known for his work as a member of Spooky Tooth, Paul McCartney & Wings, The Grease Band and Sweeney’s Men. He also performed and recorded as a solo artist and session musician.
McCullough was born in Portstewart, and first came to prominence in the early 1960s as the teenage lead guitarist with The Skyrockets showband from Enniskillen. In 1964, with three other members of The Skyrockets, he left and formed a new showband fronted by South African born vocalist Gene Chetty, which they named Gene and The Gents.
In 1967 McCullough moved to Belfast where he joined Chris Stewart (bass), Ernie Graham (vocals) and Dave Lutton (drums) to form the psychedelic band The People. Later that year the band moved to London and were signed by Chas Chandler’s management team, who changed the group’s name to Éire Apparent. Under Chandler’s guidance after a single release they toured with groups such as Pink Floyd, Soft Machine, The Move and The Jimi Hendrix Experience, as well as Eric Burdon and the Animals. Things went well until in Vancouver, Canada in mid February 1968, while the band was touring with The Animals, McCullough returned to The United Kingdom, officially because of ‘visa problems’ and Mick Cox flew out to take his place in the band. Back in Ireland McCullough joined what was primarily a folk group called Sweeney’s Men, by May 1968. Under his influence, they began to mix folk and rock, and are regarded as the innovators of Folk rock.
A new 15 track album of the best of Henry McCullough’s music during his solo career, “Ballywonderland”. All tracks produced by Henry. He grew up in Portstewart on the north coast of Northern Ireland, and played with various showbands in Ireland, The Eire Apparent on 3 tours with Jimi Hendrix, the Grease Band with Joe Cocker at Woodstock, and worked at various times with Marianne Faithfull and Donovan, and he also appeared on the original cast recording of Jesus Christ Superstar. He was recruited to join the second version of Wings in 1971, and his guitar solo on My Love on the album Red Rose Speedway marked a career peak. McCullough also worked with George Harrison’s Dark Horse label, which produced his solo album Mind Your Own Business in 1975. During his time with Wings, McCullough was one of the people whose voices are heard answering questions at the end of Pink Floyd’s song Money from the album The Dark Side of the Moon.

You are about to listen to a master musician, a maestro, a craftsman, a fully–realized musical genius. Harvey Mandel is a legend, and a true hero of contemporary music who long ago established himself among the elite modern electric guitarists in the world. He has performed with the Rolling Stones, The Ventures, Bob Dylan, John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers and other iconic artists and bands. He performed a legendary set at Woodstock, and has played most of the great shrines of the blues and rock and roll worlds.
Harvey Mandel is a master musician at every level. Harvey actually invented many of the techniques now used by great rock, blues and “psychedelic” guitarist around the world. His beautiful melody–making, his sense of lyricism, his rhythmic potency, his breathtaking power, his pure mastery of music itself, his sense of detail and perfection, his virtually–cosmic creativity, all come together in this dazzling display of musicianship.
Performing pieces that he and/or I composed, the music in Dragons at Play is in the end pure Harvey Mandel - exciting, potent, beautiful, mystical in the greatest rock and roll sense. All instrumentation in this album is by Harvey Mandel. You can listen hundreds of times and still hear more in Harvey’s breathtaking guitar.
Dragons at Play is music for mature rock and blues connoisseurs. Listen to each piece through to the blissful end Harvey has a talent for building each piece and finishing with magic. My humble recommendation stick this disc in your car stereo, turn up the volume and take a long drive, you are about to experience mastery!

Deighton is a familiar name on the UK music scene through his work with acid jazz favourites Mother Earth and his association with Paul Weller and Oasis. Additionally, he has established a minor solo career with a series of low-key but undeniably charming folk rock albums.
Deighton initially made a name for himself in the mid-80s as a member of London-based indie rock band the Wolfhounds, before moving on to Mother Earth in the early 90s. As the band’s chief songwriter he was responsible for some of their most memorable songs, including the sublime ballad ‘Jesse’. In 1995, shortly before Mother Earth’s demise, Deighton released his solo debut Villager, a charming folk rock collection that earned admiring comparisons to the work of Richard Thompson. In 1997, he joined Paul Weller’s band for the Heavy Soul tour and remained as lead guitarist until late 1999. The following year Deighton issued his second solo album, You Are The Healer. Originally recorded in 1996 but delayed because of contractual difficulties, the album was reworked for release on the Yeaah! label and featured excellent keyboard work from UK music legend Brian Auger.
