Bekka Bramlett - I Got News For You

Bekka Bramlett - I Got News For You - 2009

Bekka came by her stunning voice honestly. The daughter of ’70s duo Delaney and Bonnie Bramlett, Bekka’s raw vocals earned her a four-year stint replacing Stevie Nicks in Fleetwood Mac. Her voice, which combines tenderness with the grit of Tina Turner, has graced recordings by Alison Krauss, Faith Hill, Vince Gill and others.

Here she wraps that silk-and-sandpaper instrument around her own batch of songs, all produced by legendary singer/songwriter Joe Stampley. The first song starts out with a nice country fiddle, but Bekka’s vocal merely hints at its true soulfulness before giving way to the full-throated bluesy rendition of “I Got News for You.” The album moves through several styles, from the slow and romantic “I Wanna Be That Woman” to the rocking “Love the Man,” and Bekka’s voice ties these various musical threads together seamlessly.

Pete Townshend - Lifehouse Elements

Pete Townshend - Lifehouse Elements - 2000

from cduniverse
As most Who fans already know, Pete Townshend's next project after finishing TOMMY was to be a wildly ambitious multi-media event-including an album, a concert, and a movie - called LIFEHOUSE, with a storyline that was a combination of sci-fi and Eastern mysticism. The project eventually collapsed, partly due to early '70s technical limitations, but some of the songs later surfaced on official Who albums (principally WHO'S NEXT) and on several widely circulated Townshend bootlegs.

LIFEHOUSE ELEMENTS (an abridged version of a 6-CD set for sale on Townshend's website), collects various versions of the most important songs. Some are new, such as an astounding techno demolition of Who Are You, and a lovely acoustic guitar/string orchestra remake of Behind Blue Eyes, while some are old, including occasionally unfamiliar mixes of Townshend's one-man band demos of Pure and Easy, and Won't Get Fooled Again. Almost everything here is interesting on some level, and it goes without saying that this is an absolute must-have for Who fans.

There once was a note, pure and easy
Playing so free, like a breath rippling by
The note is eternal, I hear it, it sees me
Forever we blend and forever we die

Roger Daltrey - Tower Theatre - Philadelphia

Roger Daltrey - Tower Theatre - Philadelphia - 05/dez/1985

Lead vocalist Roger Daltrey from The Who took a chance on a rare solo tour, from which this King Biscuit Flower Hour recording is derived. Daltrey had grown tired of Pete Townshend taking his time to resurrect The Who, and as a result, in 1985 Daltrey decided he would take his own project on the road.

The results are mixed. Although Daltrey had many excellent solo hits such as "Giving It All Away" (mostly written by ex-Argent guitarist, Russ Ballard), the majority of his material here is from 1985's Under a Raging Moon, which was the solo album Daltrey wrote in memory of the late Keith Moon.

Ollie Halsall with John Halsey - Abbot's Langrey

Ollie Halsall with John Halsey - Abbot's Langrey -  1980

In 1980, following his early career with Timexbox, Patto, Tempest and Boxer guitarist Ollie Halsall teamed up with former bandmate drummer John Halsey to record these remarkable sessions.

The planned group never materialised and Ollie joined Kevin Ayers' band, with whom he spent most of the next 12 years, until his untimely death in 1992.

This album is a snapshot of a particular period in the life of a somewhat eccentric but extraordinarily talented musician.

The material, which includes nine Halsall originals, dates from a 1980 colaboration with drummer John Halsey and is completed by some very unusual extra recordings.
