Vanilla Fudge - Reunion Tour

Vanilla Fudge - Reunion Tour - 2011

Se o internauta não conhecer minimamente a banda ficará pensando que You Keep Me Hanging On se chama Eleanor Rigby (clássico dos Beatles) ou que My World is Empty passou a ser chamar People Get Ready.

Osibisa - Monsore (RE-POST)

Osibisa - Monsore - 1997

From Allmusic

The brainchild of Teddy Osei, a Ghanaian sax player, composer, and drummer who came to London to study music, Osibisa was one of the first African bands to win worldwide popularity. Their mix of African (especially highlife) and Caribbean forms made them a sensation in the mid 70s and their popularity continues today, even though recording dates have fallen off.

Yesterday - A Tribute To The Beatles - Live From Las Vegas!

Yesterday - A Tribute To The Beatles - Live From Las Vegas! - 2007

Performing all eras of Beatles music in their original key, wearing drainpipe trousers and playing authentic instruments, Yesterday - The Beatles Tribute has performed on five continents. Beginning with the British Invasions in 1964, the mop tops from Liverpool began the first wave of Beatlemania. The Beatles forever changed the face of pop music with such songs as "Hard Day's Night", "Help", "I Wanna Hold Your Hand", "Sgt. Pepper", and "Revolution". Yesterday recreates note for note the music of the Fab Four.

Based in Las Vegas, Yesterday show bands have performed the long running show in among others, Atlantic City at the Tropicana Casino Resort for three years, at the Horizon Casino Hotel in Lake Tahoe for eight months, five months in the Tiffany Theater at the Tropicana in Las Vegas and hundreds of venues across the US.

Steve Ellis - Ten Commitments

Steve Ellis - Ten Commitments - 2011

By Ivan Beavis from Morning Star

You just cannot keep an old rocker from the '60s down these days. Steve Ellis is the old frontman from glam pop band The Love Affair, whose number one hit Everlasting Love is still a staple of nostalgia radio stations throughout the world.

On this, he's come up with an album made in 10 days in a mate's new studio. And it is by no means a bad record at all if you like familiar tunes well sung and performed.

Ellis was never a flash in the pan, as his brilliant performance on the soundtrack to the film of Joe Orton's Loot testifies, and again the album reflects his impeccable choice of songs.

As well as two of his own compositions, penned with Andy Lewis and Eric Wright, he has chosen songs by Neil Young and Beatles and a reggae version of Please Please Me which, though it might not sound like a good idea, works pretty well.

All in all, an honest offering of enjoyable fare with nothing outstanding - but all of it worthwhile.

Ronnie Lane - You Never Can Tell (The BBC Sessions) (Re-Re-Post)

Ronnie Lane - You Never Can Tell (The BBC Sessions) - 1997

Ronald Frederick "Ronnie" Lane (1 April 1946 - 4 June 1997) was an English musician, songwriter, and producer who is best known as the bass guitarist and founding member of two prominent English rock and roll bands; the Small Faces where he was nicknamed "Plonk", (1965–69) - and, after losing the band's frontman, Faces, with two new members added to the line up from The Jeff Beck Group).

Subsequently Lane collaborated with other musicians, leading his own bands as well as pursuing a solo career while remaining close to his former bandmates. In the late 1970s he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and, despite charity projects and financial support from friends, former bandmates and fans, Lane, after suffering from the disease for 21 years, died at 51.

review from makingtime.co.uk
British label New Millenium Communications, in conjunction with the Lane family, has released three excellent new Ronnie Lane releases in 1997. The BBC live disc You Never Can Tell was planned for release prior to Lane's death in June, 1997. It's a two-disc compilation of sessions done for BBC radio between 1973 and 1976 that serves as a very fitting memorial to a great songwriter and charming performer. The release was primarily made possible by Lane's brother Stan, and has one of the loveliest packages of any CD I've seen lately, with lots of great photos, posters, an essay, and a brief interview with Lana, who was Lane's step-daughter during the Slim Chance years, and attended the events put on by Ronnie Lane & Slim Chance's Passing Show.
Disc One comprises all three Peel Sessions shows, beginning with the fall 1973 set half a year after Lane left the Faces, and continuing through 1974 and 1976, which means that most of the different line-ups of Slim Chance are included though sadly not credited individually on this CD). Disc two contains over 70 minutes with two complete lengthy sets taken from BBC's In Concert series, in 1974 and 1976. READ MORE HERE

Simo - Simo

Simo - Simo - 2011

Steve Hunter - Short Stories

Steve Hunter - Short Stories - 2008

Review from CDBABY
Steve Hunter has been contributing his expertise, style and tone to other people’s albums for over 40 years. Starting with Mitch Ryder in 1971 and moving on to record and or tour with Peter Gabriel, Lou Reed, Alice Cooper, Julian Lennon, Bette Midler and Tracy Chapman to name a few.

He has had a longstanding working relationship and friendship with legendary record producer Bob Ezrin since those early albums, which continues today. From unforgettable tracks such as ‘Solsbury Hill (Peter Gabriel), ‘Train Kept Rolling’ (Aerosmith) and ‘Intro to Sweet Jane’ (Lou Reed).

Steve has recorded four albums under his own name: ‘Swept Away’ ‘The Deacon’ ‘Short Stories’ and Hymns For Guitar’. The latter two can be currently found on most major online stores.

Most recently Steve has featured heavily on the new Alice Cooper album ‘Welcome 2 My Nightmare’ a successor to the hugely successful ‘Welcome To My Nightmare’ released in 1975 and also completed a world tour with Alice during 2011.

‘Short Stories’ is a collection of instrumentals full of mood and color.

“I have always admired authors such as O. Henry and Edgar Allan Poe for their ability to tell an amazing tale in a very few words. I am also a big fan of the old Twilight Zone series for the same reason. With “Short Stories” I’ve tried to do something similar only with music. Most of the songs on the CD are 3 minutes or less in length but I wanted each one to tell its own little story. I also think of each piece as a “sound picture”, projecting an aural image as well as telling a story. I hope you enjoy my collection of “Short Stories”.

The Kinx - A Tribute to The Kinks

The Kinx - A Tribute toThe Kinks - 2009

Review from TributeBandReviews

Kinks tribute band (The Kinx) first got together in 2007, the first year was dedicated almost entirely to re-recording the Kinks songs. They examined the music of The Kinks in the finest detail so as to re-create it in a recording made some 40 odd years later. The instruments used, who played which part using a particular type of amplifier, the dissection of each drum fill and the intricacies of the vocal arrangements were all pulled apart and put back together again. This process lasted some 13 months.

The band emerged at the end of this long recording project with their minds still intact and went on the road. All of the musicians in The Kinx are seasoned professionals when it comes to performing live in previous guises. The band has already received fantastic responses, not least at Liverpool’s famous Cavern Club on the bill with The Undertakers and The Mojos. The Kinx have since been booked to perform 60′s shows with Liverpool Legends Gerry & The Pacemakers.

Let’s not forget that The Kinks along with The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and The Who were the ‘big 4′, the original ‘Britpop’ bands that defined a whole new musical generation back in the early sixties.

Now you can revisit those heady days when the world was changing so quickly from the austere times of the previous decade. Hair was growing longer, skirts were getting shorter, shirts were getting louder and pirate radio ruled the airwaves. The Kinx aim to make you smile when you remember those fantastic times. Tight 3 part harmonies and musicianship of the highest standard have combined to bring those fabulous Kinks songs from the swinging sixties back to life.

Attention to detail is paramount, authentic instruments and amplification is matched with a modern day state of the art sound system to deliver a truly magical musical experience. Attention has also been paid to the image, authentic 60′s Mod clothing as worn by the band, drainpipes and Chelsea boots, paisley shirts with penny drop collars and double cuffs – real Mod style for the iconic Kinks generation.

Delaney Bramlett - Something's Coming (RE-RE-POST)

Delaney Bramlett - Something's Coming - 1972

From www.answers.com

Some Things Coming features Bramlett on lead vocals and guitars with a full-on horn section, Venetta Fields and Clydie King on backing vocals throughout, string arrangements by George Bohannon, percussionist Milt Holland, Ronnie Grayson on drums, bassist Robert Wilson, and B-3 boss Tim Hedding -- the backing chorus added on several cuts includes future disco diva Gloria Jones and Shirley Matthews. The material is wide-ranging but always greasy.

The opener is the driving funky Southern soul and gospel of "Over and Over"; it's revved to rockist hedonism with a splintering, overdriven guitar and popping bassline dueling to the death with double-time drums and an ambitious horn chart. There's the in-the-pocket ballad "Thank God," which manages to evoke both Ray Charles and '60s Nashville without blowing it. The gospel blues of "Please Accept My Love" is done in the utterly believable, wanton, pleading singing voice that Leon Russell and Bramlett shared -- but Bramlett's range is wider. It gets downright hard and funky on "Keep It Going," a tune that Bramlett co-wrote with Elvin Bishop. This is snaky voodoo funk at its best.

One can hear the Meters and a gospel choir meeting on the street corner where Saturday night reluctantly gives way to Sunday morning and the spirits are everywhere duking it out. Add the title track and the album is worth its weight in gold. Bramlett -- via percussionist Holland with a kalimba, congas, and a boatload of hand percussion, and a gospel choir singing in Zulu -- simply takes the innovation of Hugh Masakela into the rock and Southern soul idiom. He answers them, line for line, in English. It all flows together until it erupts in razor-sharp lead guitar lines; funked-out bass and drums are underscored by the B-3 in the middle eight before it gives way again to the chant. It's stunning -- especially considering it's followed here with the traditional "Down by the Riverside," done with so much class you'd swear you were in church, except for maybe that guitar solo. Speaking of which, "Sit Right Down" offers one of the nastiest-sounding National Steel bottleneck guitars ever put in front of a mike in a studio.

Black Girls - Hell Dragon

Black Girls - Hell Dragon - 2012

Richmond, Virginia's BLACK GIRLS have become a staple in their hometown almost overnight. In a city where there are probably more bands than actual citizens, they have quickly developed a large and dedicated fan base in their short one year history. As editor of RVA Magazine, Andrew Necci puts it, "they have somehow accomplished the impossible in Richmond--they play out more than any band I can think of, yet still bring out legions of fans and musical peers."

The shorthand for their sound is "snuff rock" -- which the band refers to as psychedelic southern soul. On tape, it sounds like Freddie Mercury was raised by swamp people. Onstage, it sounds like Dick Dale playing at the Apollo.

Beginning with the release of a self-titled anthology of collected demos, Black Girls have turned heads up and down the East Coast. As that album went into it's second pressing, they released a vinyl single of “Broadway” as a split with local heavy hitters NO BS! BRASS BAND – the pet project of Bon Iver's horn man, Reggie Pace. Black Girls have shared stages with bands such as Fucked Up, Wavves, Girl Talk, Best Coast, Soft Landing, Wild Nothing, and Fang Island.

This winter, the release of BLACK GIRLS’ first proper full length "Hell Dragon" will teleport you to some place between 2112 and 1999.

Marty Balin - The Witcher

Marty Balin - The Witcher - 2011

from AMG Music

While remaining best known for his contributions to the pioneering San Francisco psychedelic band Jefferson Airplane, Marty Balin also enjoyed a successful solo career, scoring a Top Ten hit in 1981 with "Hearts." Born Martyn Jerel Buchwald in Cincinnati, OH, on January 30, 1942, he was raised in the Bay Area and later attended San Francisco State University; though he initially pursued a career as a painter, after appearing in a production of West Side Story Balin turned to music, issuing the solo singles "Nobody But You" and "I Specialize in Love" on Challenge in 1962. Two years later he joined the folk combo the Town Criers, followed by a brief stint with the Gateway Singers; in 1965, Balin met singer/guitarist Paul Kantner at the local club the Drinking Gourd, and together they formed Jefferson Airplane. Initially a folk-rock venture, the group came to epitomize the nascent psychedelic scene, scoring a gold record with their 1967 sophomore LP Surrealistic Pillow; although vocalist Grace Slick was the focal point of hits such as "Somebody to Love" and "White Rabbit," Balin's soulful tenor proved a pivotal element of their sound as well, and he also wrote key compositions including "Today," "Share a Little Joke," and "Volunteers."

Wild Horses - Stand Your Ground

Wild Horses - Stand Your Ground - 1981  (reissued 2009 with 4 bonus tracks)

Wild Horses was formed in the summer of 1978 by ex-Thin Lizzy guitarist Brian Robertson and ex-Rainbow bassist Jimmy Bain. At an early stage the line-up featured former Stone The Crows and Wings guitarist Jimmy McCulloch and former Small Faces drummer Kenney Jones, but eventually stabilised with the addition of drummer Clive Edwards (ex-Pat Travers, Uli Roth) and guitarist/keyboardist Neil Carter (ex-Wilder, Gilbert O'Sullivan). This line-up recorded the Trevor Rabin-produced eponymous album in 1980, released by EMI who signed the band after their 1979 Reading Festival appearance.

Carter left the band in August 1980 after the band's UK tour with Ted Nugent in order to join UFO and later Gary Moore. His replacement was guitarist John Lockton (ex-The Next Band, Red Alert) whose first appearance was on the band's Japanese tour in the autumn of 1980 followed by the release of the Stand Your Ground album in the spring of 1981.
