Lance) - Rollin' Man - 1972</span></div><div><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Bobby Lance was a noted songwriter and blue-eyed soul man who enjoyed a successful career as a tunesmith and arranger, while winning a cult following for his recording career without making much of a dent on the sales charts. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Bobby lost his parents at a young age, and the primary responsibilities of looking after him fell to his sister Fran Lance, 17 years older than her brother. Fran was a classically trained pianist, and Bobby developed a strong interest in music. When Fran married Norm Robins, he noticed Bobby's budding talent as a singer and composer, and as Bobby started writing songs in collaboration with Fran, Norm believed Bobby had the potential to be a pop star. Norm kicked in the money to record Bobby's first single, "Baby, I'm Gone," and while the record didn't sell very well, it got Bobby's foot in the door of the music business. In 1962, the vocal group the Escorts (led by future record producer Richard Perry) cut one of Bobby Lance and Fran Robins' tunes, "I Can't Be Free," and a year later, when lead singer Goldie Zelkowitz left the Escorts, Bobby was brought in to sing with the combo. (Zelkowitz later enjoyed greater success as a singer and producer under the name Genya Ravan.) While the Escorts broke up after two more singles, Bobby and Fran continued to enjoy success as songwriters, and Bobby began branching out as an arranger. By 1968, Bobby had been hired as an arranger and songwriter for Atlantic Records; Bobby tried to place a song he'd written, "The House That Jack Built," with Aretha Franklin, but when Franklin's A&R people expressed an initial indifference, Bobby persuaded R&B diva Thelma Jones to cut the tune. To Bobby's surprise, Franklin and her producers had a change of heart about the song, and Aretha's version of "The House That Jack Built" ended up trouncing Jones' on the charts.</div><div><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">By the end of the '60s, Fran and Bobby began going their separate ways as songwriters, and in 1970 Bobby began work on his first solo LP as part of his Atlantic deal. However, in hopes of expanding his profile as a tunesmith, Bobby had signed a conflicting songwriting deal with Motown Records, and by the time the lawyers had settled the matter, Motown was owed part of the royalties on Bobby's upcoming album. By the time it was released by Atlantic's Cotillion subsidiary in 1971, Bobby's debut album, First Peace, received little notice, in part because Atlantic was reluctant to promote an album that would earn profits for another label. While First Peace was inspired by Southern soul -- and Bobby's vocals were a perfect fit for that style -- Lance took his music in a more rock-oriented direction for his follow-up, 1972's Rollin' Man, which was released under the moniker B. Lance. The album fared no better in the marketplace than First Peace, even though unlike the debut, Atlantic released a single from Rollin' Man ("Rock Your Own" b/w "Hot Wood and Coal") in hopes of promoting radio play. Rollin' Man marked the end of Bobby Lance's contract with Atlantic, and his lack of commercial success as a performer made it difficult for him to land a new record deal. Lance stepped away from music, relocated to Tarrytown, New York, and took up a career in education, though he continued to write and perform in his spare time</div></div><div><br /></div><div><div>01. The Carl Palmer Anthology - 2001</span></div><div><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">This double-CD set raises a lot of questions and red flags, though most of the doubts will be resolved by the music itself. For starters, the first disc, credited to Emerson, Lake & Palmer in terms of its focus, is a tiny bit of a cheat, since it's not a truly comprehensive look at Palmer's contribution to the latter group -- it consists largely of Palmer's solo work within the context of the group name, all dating from 1977's Works (which was essentially three solo albums and a group side) or later, some as late as 2001, and that material only tells part of the story of Palmer's work with the group. Additionally, the structure of the set is a little odd -- on an intellectual level, it is understandable why this double CD was arranged the way it was, with the ELP tracks on disc one, while disc two covers the periods before and after; the ELP stuff is qualitatively different from the rest, as music, in terms of its goals and what Palmer was doing. It's also probably the main selling point to lots of fans -- it's just a pity that the set is arranged this way, because it relegates a pair of supremely attractive mod-era tracks by Palmer's first band to record, the Craig, to a secondary position, and it leaves "Love Light" by the Liverpool group the Chants -- for whom Palmer played drums on that song -- in a similarly neglected spot, and does a similar disservice to Atomic Rooster's "Decline and Fall."</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">In fairness, however, the set does encompass virtually the entirety of Palmer's career and art, or at least the accessible high points; from his beginnings as a potentially top-ranked session drummer (he could have been the percussionist's answer to Jimmy Page) to his emergence as a member of Atomic Rooster, listeners get a sketchy but satisfying view of his developing ambition. Asia is represented by "Heat of the Moment," and the material by Palmer's more pop-oriented group P.M. is eminently accessible. The 3 project material shows a mix of pop and progressive sensibilities that should have proved more popular than it did (their version of "Eight Miles High" is fun). And the disc ends on a deeply personal note, with a live performance by Palmer with the Buddy Rich Orchestra -- an acknowledgment of Palmer's debt to the legendary jazz drummer (whom he got to know in the later years of his life) -- playing "Shawnee." The ELP material is all on disc one, and it is also sketchy -- the more developed 1977 version of "Tank" is present, and it is the earliest composition represented, but obviously Palmer's contributions to the trio go deeper than a track such as that; the opening section of "Tarkus" could just as easily have been included. In Palmer's case, as opposed to that of his bandmate Keith Emerson, at least his reach doesn't exceed his grasp -- "Concerto for Percussion" by Joseph Horovitz is well within his abilities as a player and does, indeed, give him an opportunity to say something with his playing in a classical context. The sound is excellent apart from the latter track, and the annotation is very thorough, if a bit disjointed.</div><div><br /></div><div>01. Concerto For Percussion - ELP</div><div>02. <br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
A first ever collection of all the singles and unreleased studio recordings by this seminal UK pop punk outfit with close links to Sparks , whose track Aggravation Place is one of the highlights of the recent Glitterbest set. The Jook were the brainchild of Sparks manager John Hewlett, who introduced guitarist Trevor White to singer-songwriter Ian Kimmett, and recruited bassist Ian Hampton and drummer Chris Townson. He secured a record deal with RCA; a publishing contract with Mickie Most, who signed them without even hearing a note and a monthly residency at The Sundown in Edmonton, North London. <br />

The final nail in the coffin was when they were unable to promote their last single, Bish Bash Bosh, after their tour with The Sweet had been cancelled. The anthemic Aggravation Place dates from their last recording session in 1976, which later appeared as an EP on Bomp in the US and Chiswick in the UK in 1978. Trevor White: "The best thing we ever done, everything just as we wanted, and if we'd stayed together we might have had the breakthrough." As soon as the session was finished White and Hampton jumped ship and joined Sparks, who were enjoying their first taste of success with This Town Ain't Big Enough For The Both Of Us, and stayed with them for two albums. Kimmett remained in the business and ran Bearsville Records for Albert Grossman. Today the US market for 70s power pop has embraced the Jook, whilst elsewhere such as the UK and Japan the market for proto punk has equally identified the Jook for re-appraisal. </div>

The two musicians co-wrote 11 songs for the debut album titled TorQue 103103. The original band was started as a power trio with Mark Clarke (Billy Squier) on bass and vocals. This line up was joined in the studio by Chris Clark on keyboards. The new quartet served as the backing band for 2 tracks on the CD Songs From The Material World - A tribute to George Harrison on Koch Records. They performed with Leslie West on "Old Brown Shoe" and John Entwistle on "Here Comes The Sun." The tracks were produced by Steve Luongo.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">While recording 103103 Mark Clarke was tapped by his former band for a tour. Luongo & Hitt added bassist Jeff Ganz(Johnny Winter). Luongo served as producer and lead vocalist in addition to his usual spot as drummer. Both Luongo and Hitt have said that 103103 is among their proudest musical achievements. TorQue 103103 is considered to be a huge step in their progressive musical journey which began in 1974. TorQue toured nationally in 2003-2005. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">The band has also backed up some familiar names on the live concert stage. Robin Zander & Rick Nielsen (Cheap Trick), Buck Dharma (Blue Oyster Cult), Eddie Money and Mark Farner (Grand Funk Railroad) to name a few. Mark and Steve recorded and toured in 2007 with Brian Johnson & Cliff Williams (AC/DC). They also performed a set of Cream material with bass legend Jack Bruce for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">After a break Luongo and Hitt reformed the band as a trio with bassist Larry Hobbs. They played some one off gigs in 2011 including an appearence at the famed Playboy Mansion in LA. The band recently invited Tommy Zvoncheck(Blue Oyster Cult) to fill the keyboard seat and is once again performing as a four piece group. This progressive rock band is looking forward to playing some "prog" festivals in the fall. Dates will be announced here and on all of the band's media outlets. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div>01. Hard Time</div><div>02. During the 15 years that we worked together as a rhythm section, we remained true to that cause. This widescale public interest coincided with the construction of new arenas for sporting events, among them the Forum in Inglewood, CA. Designed by famed architect Charles Luckman (who also designed New York’s rebuilt Madison Square Garden), this multi-purpose venue opened in 1967 as the home of the Los Angeles Kings hockey team and Los Angeles Lakers basketball team, but also began to serve as a music venue. Among the earliest concerts held there was Aretha Franklin in January 1968 and the Cream farewell tour with opening act Deep Purple in October of that year. The Jimi Hendrix Experience were booked to perform on April 26, 1969 with opening acts Chicago Transit Authority (soon-to-be renamed Chicago) and Cat Mother & The All Night Newsboys, the latter of whom shared management with the headliners. Floor seats cost $6.50 ($51.20 adjusted for inflation).</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">By the time The Jimi Hendrix Experience took the stage to blaze through a spirited set, live concert sound had drastically improved from the time of The Beatles baseball stadium tours, but crowd control was still a major concern. Between songs, Jimi pled with audience members to stop rushing the stage. A heavy police presence is felt; lyrics for their hit “Purple Haze” are altered (“’Scuse me while I kiss that policeman!”) and Jimi dedicates “Spanish Castle Magic” to “the plain clothes police out there and other goofballs.”</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Hendrix treated each performance as a unique event. He never relied on a standard set list comprised only of his biggest commercial hits. This approach was on full display at the Forum performance, blending more familiar tunes such as “Foxey Lady” with “I Don’t Live Today” from Are You Experienced and his signature blues original “Red House”(“Everybody want to know what America’s soul is; everybody think it’s Motown … America’s soul is something more like this here”) which had still not yet been released in the US at this time.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Furthermore, the group opened their set with a cover of “Tax Free” – an obscure 1967 instrumental by Swedish duo Hansson & Karlsson (consisting of Bo Hansson and Janne Karlsson), with whom The Experience had previously shared bills in Stockholm. Another unique highlight featured within the Forum performance was an early reimagining of “Star Spangled Banner,” which Jimi would canonize four months later at Woodstock. “Here’s a song we was all brainwashed with,” Jimi trenchantly declares, at a time when the nation was in a state of great political unrest. The group closed their performance with a unique, extraordinary medley of “Voodoo Child (Slight Return)” and Cream’s “Sunshine of Your Love.” The song was an Experience favorite and a perfect live vehicle for the trio’s unparalleled improvisational skill.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">The Jimi Hendrix Experience – Los Angeles Forum: April 26, 1969 was recorded by Wally Heider and Bill Halverson contemporaneously, and recently remixed by longtime Hendrix producer/engineer Eddie Kramer for maximum audio fidelity. As an organist, Cadd came to prominence in bands such as the Groop (1966-69) and Axiom (1969-71), the latter being touted as Australia’s first supergroup. In 1972, after returning from another unsuccessful attempt at the English market, he became a solo artist, following a brief spell as a duo with Don Mudie which resulted in the Australian hit single ‘Show Me The Way’. Cadd gradually built up his following with several piano-based singles and strong albums. Eventually he was secure enough to form his own label, Bootleg, on which he produced and nurtured several other acts. Cadd formed a house band, the Bootleg Band, which he used for recording, performing and touring. Meanwhile, Cadd’s solo albums continued to chart (his first two albums were Australia’s biggest-selling records in 1973), but his strength was his songwriting, which provided hits for various Australian acts. In the 80s he relocated to Los Angeles where he was successful in securing high-profile artists such as the Pointer Sisters and Gene Pitney to record his songs. In 1990 Cadd toured with Max Merrit And The Meteors and in 1991 he joined the line-up of the Flying Burrito Brothers. He sang on the albums Eye Of The Hurricane (1993) and Sons Of The Golden West (1999) and toured extensively with the group. In 1993 he recorded an album with old Axiom bandmate Glenn Shorrock. Cadd, who teaches and lectures in Australia, is also the co-owner of the Streetwise Music Group. In 2005, he released his first studio album in over 20 years.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="text-align: left;">01. They came up alongside the Rolling Stones in the early 1960s, but were deemed by critics and fans as wilder and bluesier than even Mick Jagger & co. When long-haired Phil May sang and shook his maracas with manic intensity, audiences and record buyers knew they were in for a wild ride. But the Pretty Things took their music seriously and developed into one of the more innovative rock bands of the 70s, much admired by groups and artists from Led Zeppelin to David Bowie. As well as recording hit singles and albums, the Pretties were also heard live in action on BBC radio shows that captured their dynamic performances with remarkable clarity and presence. We are fortunate that this audio heritage has been carefully preserved and has now been digitally restored for future generations to enjoy. Repertoire is proud to present this comprehensive 6 CD collection that provides over seven hours of non-stop R&B, original songs and new concepts. Such seminal BBC shows as Saturday Club presented by DJ Brian Matthew and Top Gear by John Peel, who also hosted his own regular Sunday Concert, welcomed the band to their studios where they’d romp into everything from Pretty Thing favourites like ‘Big Boss Man’, ‘Road Runner’ and ‘Buzz The Jerk’ to the experimental ‘Defecting Grey’. Check out 1968’s ‘SF Sorrow Is Born’, an hypnotic and mysterious ri! that might well have in"uenced today’s groups like Kula Shaker. There is more broadcast material from the 1970s and even into the 2000s with BBC shows hosted by Mark Lamarr and Marc Riley that bring the band’s history up to date with vibrant versions of ‘Belfast Cowboys’, ‘Singapore Silk Torpedo’ and even a revival of their #rst hit single ‘Rosalyn’. This superb boxed set has informative liner notes by Richard Morton Jack, progressive rock historian and editor of Flashback magazine, and includes an interview with Phil May discussing the recordings. Repertoire’s Chris Welch also interviews founder member guitarist Dick Taylor, who reminisces about the early days of the Pretty Things and pays tribute to his old friend Phil May who sadly passed away in 2020.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div><b>CD 1</b></div><div>1. Sweet Thursday - Sweet Thursday - 1969</div>

The man who is responsible for virtually creating Eric Clapton's sound in the 1970s and bringing the great southern R&B traditions together with hard rock and rambling country-soul (how many records did Gram Parsons and Duane Allman appear on together? One: Delaney & Bonnie's Motel Shot in 1971) is creating some of the finest music in his life, when most of his contemporaries settled for far less artistically, though they have reaped far more material benefit and historical recognition (Clapton's musical laziness is a case in point).</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">The 12 tracks on Sounds From Home are steeped in the classic Delaney Bramlett style: plenty of grease, funk, grit, and soul with the texture of great country blues and spooky gospel tossed in. With ex-wife Kim Carmel, Bramlett created a vocal duo that is every bit as stirring and sensual as the one he had with Bonnie Bramlett. The charm is in the delivery, which is not charm at all, but pure emotion. While the record begins stomping on "Funky," with horns, a B-3, hand percussion, and the great arrangement style of Muscle Shoals, that is by no means the only ace up Bramlett's sleeve. "Free" is a love song that reveals every hairline fracture in the memory of the human heart. "Mississippi" evokes a hot, sweaty afternoon and breezy Southern nights and "Locked up in Alabama" has a wicked Robert Wilson bassline that acts as the foundation for a slippery, dark, steamy, funky track that is equal parts Staple Singers and Tony Joe White, but all Bramlett. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Perhaps nowhere is that signature more prevalent than on an updated version of "Let It Rain" that Bramlett co-wrote with Clapton. Here the arrangement comes out of the Caribbean, complete with steel drums doing the fills and a virtual choir of backing vocalists that includes daughter Bekka. The vocal is pure heart, ringing through the singers and the band. Bramlett is calling down a rain so mighty it may even cleanse his own tortured heart. The set ends with the record's most heartbreaking track, "Brown Paper Bag," where Bramlett recounts the inability to recover from lost love or to quit carrying it around: "There's a brown paper bag holding all of my dreams/That brown paper bag isn't what it seems/When my life comes apart and the pieces fall/I've got a brown paper bag where I put them all." The strings swell, but not enough to cover a vocal that contains searing truth in every syllable. As the track winds out and disappears, there is only the hint of a whisper at its end, a seam that lies open just a fraction -- barely visible, but nonetheless inviting the listener to consider all that has taken place these past 45 minutes. In sum, it seems so simple, almost unnoticeable, until we realize that Sounds From Home is the truth of a man's life presented in the only way he knows how to relate it. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">And it's more than good enough -- it is necessary and instructive and burning with the brokenness that only true compassion provides. It's the kind of album we need in a dark and confusing time, and one that we can learn from as well as take comfort in for decades to come. Delaney Bramlett isn't back; he never left. For those who love his music as a soundtrack of rhythm and color in their lives, Sounds From Home is a kind and weathered voice that has been out in the storm of life for a long while, but has come home to tell its stories.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">01. He soon became a member of the Shindogs, the resident band on the TV show Shindig. Such a job allowed Bramlett to rub shoulders with other notable musicians, and in 1967 he met Bonnie Lynn O'Farrell, a member of Ike & Tina Turner's backup group the Ikettes. The two were married within five days; they also formed a duo named Delaney & Bonnie. <span style="color: #8e7cc3;">Read More </span><a href="http://www.allmusic.com/artist/delaney-bramlett-p16058/biography" style="color: #8e7cc3;">HERE</a></span></div><span style="font-size: small;"></span><br /><span face=""arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif">Delaney Bramlett - Vocals, Guitar<br /><span face=""arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif">Nick Van Maarth, Jim McGrew - Guitar<br />Fred Riviera - Bass<br />Stu Perry - Drums, Percussion<br />Victor Pantonia - Congas, Percussion<br />Rick Sutherland - Keyboads<br />Jim Hobson - Piano, Clavinet<br />Cole Kesler - Harmonica</span></span><br /><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /><span face=""arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif">1975's Jimmy Bowen produced "Giving Birth To A Song" marked Delaney Bramlett's third solo album (and his third label in as many years).
