Shawn Phillips - Infinity - 2014
Shawn Phillips is one of most fascinating and enigmatic musicians to come out of the early '70s singer-songwriter boom. In addition to recording more than 20 solo albums, he has worked with
Donovan, Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood, Bernie Taupin, The Beatles and
many others. Shawn has been described as "The best kept secret in the
music business,” by the late rock impresario Bill Graham.
Infinity was recorded in 1989 using the “Infinity Device”. It was an
innovative experiment, but remained unreleased until now. The “Infinity
Device,” was a collection of pre MIDI Analog Synthesizers and drum
modules modified to allow Shawn to perform alone yet sound like an
entire band. Tracks 1-4 and 8 were done live by Shawn with no
overdubbing. Tracks 2-3-5 and 7 were performed live by Shawn with
additional parts played simultaneously by Elmo Peeler. Each track was
recorded in one take. The Entire Album was recorded and mixed in two
days at Cherokee Studios. This is the only studio recording of Shawn
performing with the Infinity Device.
