Third World - AIYE-KETA (Steve Winwood, Remi Kabaka, Abdul Amao) (repost)

Third World - AIYE-KETA (Steve Winwood, Remi Kabaka, Abdul Amao)  - 1973

In 1973, while Steve Winwood was on hiatus from Traffic due to illness, he took part in a reggae trio called The Third World. It was a one-off project, not to be confused with the better-known, long-running reggae band of the same name. His two collaborators were african musicians Remi Kabaka (who had played with Winwood in Ginger Baker's Air Force) and Abdul Lasisi Amao (a founding member of the african group Osibisa). Their only album Aiye-Keta was produced by Winwood, who also played keyboards, lead guitar, and moog synthesizer.

Some later printings of the album gave artist billing to the three members instead of to Third World, possibly to avoid confusion with that other band.

  1. Thanks for sharing, but when you listen to these 5 songs, there is no link with reggae ("In 1973, while Steve Winwood was on hiatus from Traffic due to illness, he took part in a reggae trio called The Third World").

  2. So there is no connection. No problem.
    Music definition sometimes is subjective.
    Cheers and Enjoy.

  3. Hi there,
Thanks a lot for sharing this superb album. I got it on vinyl and it's good I have it now on mp3 for some easy & quickly listenings.
Just I want to inform you now: no confusion possible with the reggae group as Aiye-Keta is the name of the Band and Third World is the name of the album...
    Cheers, Thomas (Greetings from France!!!)

  5. Hi Thomas,

It was a mess I did when posted at first time. But I decided leave it in the (re)posts. I do it because with this blog I learn more than education.

In fact, I don't have a lot to teach.

Thanks so much for your comment.
